The Importance of Experiments
A number of mathematicians solve the cycloid problem with relative ease while Galileo was fumbling around with seizures and glue. Descartes, a mathematically competent person, immediately sends his solution to the problem which he composed on the spot. This just goes to show why mathematicians have so little respect for experiment.
