i call this poison pilling, very fancy. They also take a word that has positive connotations and then they slip in a poison idea to trick you into swallowing it. That way, the popular ideas get delegitimized and destroyed by being associated with the negative idea. A historical example of both poison pilling and sugar pilling can be found in the use and abuse of the word socialism by capital regimes and communist regimes in the twentieth century. In the capitalist countries, they poisoned, pilled, the word socialism  by associating it with the idea of dictatorship... which are things most people hate.
