Josephine Garris was the daughter and granddaughter of inventors and engineers. Her maternal grandfather, John Fitch, invented the first patented steamboat in the United States. She wouldn't even live to see the 19th amendment come around. Josephine hated doing the dishes herself because she didn't have time for it.
