The financial system in Africa is still like very colonial. 80% of all inter-African payments are processed by an American or Western company. So now we have a new financial system being built by Africans on the Bitcoin standard. It's trending away from rent-seeking and various intermediation and monopolies. And if we can find ways to keep that balance, maybe we have a different future.
Alex Gladstein is the Chief Strategy Officer at the Human Rights Foundation. He joins me for a deep dive into his upcoming book “Hidden Repression”. We discuss how the IMF and World Bank repress poor countries and funnel their resources to rich ones, and more.
