In the crucifixion, Jesus was hung at a 90-degree angle from Mount Calvary. His hands were spread out so that he could bear more weight on his feet. The Nazis knew this to hang someone from the rafters and kill them quickly. Some soldiers in World War II didn't get morphine because they had nerve exposed. They preferred to commit suicide then endure the excruciating pain of being hanged.
