Prior to the joint stock limited company prior to the firm that was defined by its cozy and information boundaries. The boundary within which it was more expensive to transact every time so you kept people internally. Part of the profits these companies derive are from the fact that they are able to constrain the bargaining power that workers participating on these platforms have. It's no secret that Uber is already trying to see that future where drivers aren't necessary.
