In the early forties, clary was still performing computations for project wy. It was a top secret project during world war two to build an atomic bomb before notse germany could do the same. Los alamos remains a centre of government research and it still has some pretty strict policies on communication. The lab brought in a collection of ivyand punch curt acounting machines. This was really a labor saving effort to let the human computers work on the difficult problems. More often than not, these human computers were women.
