Pushing back the token system put the decision making more in their hands, where they had to think about the trade offs involved themselves. The rules were set up and the kids understood them, so you just had to refer back to that. So that took off a lot of stress and strain around trying to manage screen time. And i'd say this was one of the things that got that culture to begin to be part of our family culture, a culture of reading.
