Free Floating Anxiety
In his book, metias talks about the psychology of totalitarianism. He contrasts free floating anxiety with a rational anxiety that a hunter might have for a predator like a lion or a tiger. This is where you have that same fiter flight response, but you don't know what to tag it to. The leader is expendable in this kind of mass formation group because they're not actually connected to each other.
