The Difference Between Australian and English Accents

There were a lot of people from Ireland and Scotland as well with just completely different accents. You didn't have a lot of the upper class, you know, received pronunciation kind of people at least initially when it was being colonized coming over and staying here permanently. So there was already this divide socially between those who were considered to be born and raised in Australia and those who came later as adults. And they would have obviously had this drive to maintain their difference and be like, where Australian? This is our language, the way we speak. And this is how we can signify that.
