Sally Kohn: What did southern society at the time think about women owning slaves? Did they think that women were natural slave owners, or were they uncomfortable with that idea? Kohn: Some people were certainly uncomfortable with the idea of women owning enslaved people. But what I show in They Were Her Property is that other people were quite comfortable with the idea. And in fact, started giving enslaved people to young girls when they were children, when they were infants.
