LZ Granderson: I began to learn a lot about her life, which is just like fascinating in every way. She's born in Cuba to Jamaican parents and raised in Jamaica. LZ: At this time, she was working as a dancer and as an actress and as a playwright. And so we can see now how that kind of gets threaded through and transformed different historical moments that she's writing and thinking, especially about race. MARTIN SAMUEL: Her early life as an artist was deeply shaped by anti colonial movements.
