The Importance of Criticism in Afghanistan
I'm very much aware that I'm echoing some of the criticisms that the Westerners are never at the Taliban. You can't be criticizing them on a moral framework against which they fought for 20 years. It's absolute absurdity to expect that after fighting against the imposition of a Western philosophical moral framework in Afghanistan, that they're now suddenly going to be sensitive and heed concerns according to that framework. But the problem that we have is that no one is beyond the approach of critique or criticism. And if we are going to criticize the Taliban, as we should on a variety of different issues, it should be in the hope that something constructive comes out of it.
