David Conterrop: The political positions taken by each side are perceived to be dictated by secularism or religion more than they actually are. If an overwhelming majority of devoted conservatives are horting a moslem travel band, then the mixture of that political idea with their religious identity is going to be great. And if somebody on the far other side of the spectrum holds a political position and they are more likely to be secular, that political position will be seen as secularism.
