We come from a long tradition, handed down from the greeks, that a proposition is either true or false. If there is a contradiction, one of those propositions must be wrong. Richard nisbit studies reasoning and errs in reasoning. He says this need we have to find the right or the wrong of whatever we're looking at is just a cultural habit baked into our logic system.
