The Moral Distortion of Consciousness
In my normal state of consciousness I may feel some paying of empathy but it's not like feeling the pain myself now interestingly if you look at my offspring who are carrying my genes then the empathy is closer to actually feeling the pain and that also makes sense in in Darwinian terms. So maybe what you might call a moral distortion is kind of a necessary price to pay for the natural selection that got us to a point where we have complex consciousness.
