A common criticism of prison and police abolitionists is that demanding disinvestment from the police is a privileged white perspective. Most abolitionists are not white. The idea was incubated by black and brown people who were subject to the very violence they were critiquing. This remains true of most abolitionists organizing to day, including the stop shot spotter campaign.
