The more contact we have between groups, the more tolerant you go into ana being. But research found that this is only true under certain circumstances. Having a boss at work who's from that group doesn't work becausehy werenot equal. It's great to have contact with each other, but we also need when we're thinking about how to design education for kids. I think that some of these republican proposals are banning like an accurate reading of our history.

Yascha Mounk is a professor at Johns Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies, a contributing writer at The Atlantic, and the founder of Persuasion. His new book, The Great Experiment: Why Diverse Democracies Fall Apart and How They Can Endure, was published this week.
