The duponts are a great example of the contingency i played, because there was so much about that family that depended on their ideological pecularities. They were vociferous early opponents of the new deal. And they gathered fellow business men together to create what they described as a property holders association. But at the time, they couldn't escape their association with a ruling class that, during the great depression, was in severe disrepute.
