When you feel under social threat, your autonomic nervous system mobilizes. This is essentially getting physically ready to face a threat as if it's a predator on the savannah. You can think of it kind of like an overactive smoke alarm. And there really is a way to have some sort of humorous affection for this mind of ours and recognize that it's really trying so hard to serve us.
