The Power of Dolls as Religious Tools
Today many people consider the doll mainly a plaything for children. But dolls were once commonly used by people of all ages as important religious totems. The use of dolls as religious tools is kept alive today in religions like Espiritismo and Centeria, practiced by members of the Afro-Caribbean diaspora.
