The 116th Regiment, Omaha Beach, Virginia
Sculptor Jim Brothers created the statue of a GI looking down at a rifle that's been planted in the ground with a helmet on. The Bedford Boys were conscripted as a whole group and joined the 116th regiment, which was part of the 29th Infantry Division. They came to the United States during the Great Depression but ended up fighting together for their country. And they had the dubious honor of being the first soldiers onto Omaha Beach when D-Day happened.
