On the Wikipedia page 40 main characters are listed right plus minor characters so that's going to be tough going right even with a good translation not well it depends. The Chinese names alone can be confusing but I don't think that's that's the least of the hurdles to the book I think but it's also very accessible It really describes these characters and their feelings very well and a wonderful picture also of the China of the Times which is a totally different world yeah an author you're a big advocate of Arno Schmidt right yes you've written a book on him it's the book here his master work is coming out in English actually translated for the first time this September.
