Is There a Mise-en-Séne in a Film?
I think Ford, that's one of the things that he was up to with the Western. Like the scenery is so humongous and the people are really small in comparison. That's one thing that Wells liked about him. So what, the idea of Mise-en-Séne, this is like a formalist conception of film. I'm really, really happy that you made this connection to the Hudson River Valley painters.
