The Cost of Not Having a Status
California has spent a total $1.2 billion on a program to temporarily shelter and assist migrant survivors. The shelters overflowing, it's really difficult for the local budgets. New arrivals won't be able to legally work until several months to more than a year after they have filed an asylum application in immigration court. So, deny them work, give them hope that they can get asylum.
