Heavy Water and Ice Nine in Science Fiction

Author and national geographic journalist robert c. O'brien wrote a 19 72 novel titled a report from group 17. It has a lot to do with knotsy plots and a form of water that essentially brain washes individuals. Heavy water, apparently, might have played a role in this idea, along with this concept of polly water. This was a hypothesise, a polmarized form of water which doesn't actually exist. Ice nine is one of the great plot devices of all time - it's an alternate form of the water molecule that freezes at room temperature but can act as a seed crystal.
