The Big Higgs on Collider Discovered in 2012
The Higgs boson is very, very rare. It was hard to find that people anticipated. And so it took a very powerful machine in order to create it. When you smash protons together, most of the time you don't get a Higgs Boson. But because the collisions happen every 25 nanoseconds, were enough for us to build up the statistical picture and claim the discovery. The two things go hand in hand.
