The Biggest Ball of Twine in Minnesota
Al Yankovic's 1989 tribute to the biggest ball of twine in Minnesota is my favorite Weird Al song. I loved his unabashed nerdiness, it won't surprise any of you probably to hear that I was a pretty big nerd as a kid and there was just something about Weird Al that I found appealing and even empowering. We're going to talk about the grand tradition of through composed story songs and the thoughtfulness and sophistication with which Weird Al approaches them.
