I think that the epic punishment of social democratic parties and lefty parties in the 2010s is the culmination of a long process. In some cases it's more severe in Germany for instance the democratic party was heavily involved not only during the euro crisis but actually at the beginning of the euro. The commitment of social democrats and also the green party in Germany to fiscal discipline was very strange partly based on idiosyncratic German attitudes towards fiscal policy.
Featuring Anton Jäger and Dominik Leusder on Europe and the European Union from the crises of social democratic welfare states in the 1970s and 80s, the Maastricht Treaty of 1992, through the eurozone crisis, to the present moment of war in Ukraine, renewed NATO expansion, and a resurgent far right.
