Tolkien's World Building

Tolkien was, well, linguist, I understand, was he was Anglo-Saxon professor. He doesn't just create a world. He creates all the languages that belong in that world. And he also approaches the world as someone with real historical sensitivity would. So the past had a resonance that was ancient. It was almost mythic. Mythic in that kind of Joseph Campbell sense of mythic. Those stories that kind of resonate throughout all literature and the hero with a thousand faces. But it is that mythic. It is that world creation.
