Introduction
Before church and state is a study of social order in the sacramental kingdom of saint louis the ninth, by andrew willard jones. The focus is not so much on the king, but on one of his servants, gui faucoi. After serving the king in sundry high positions, he became a bishop, then pope. There is a lot to be said for this approach, but as always, its modern proponent spend too much time talking about the past and too little on how elemens of this approach could be used to build the future.
