What's Behind the Judiciary Reform in Israel?
The judicial reform package produced such a dramatic public reaction that it is actually certainly not what I would have predicted of the public reaction to be. The speed in which the reform is being pushed forward without a deliberative process, without a good faith attempt to formulate a broad consensus has created a lot of suspicion and hostility. And add to that the fact that this is being led by a government that has within it people who have been themselves implicated in criminal offenses,. Some have been convicted, some have served time in prison. Netanyahu himself is currently on trial on three corruption charges.
