Big Ideas: Information
Simplifying Complexity
The Paradox of Top-Down Causation
I was really thinking about traditional physics and this idea that if information was causal then something called top-down causation had to happen. So we seem to have these things that are like thoughts that seem to intervene on the world and thought are not, they're an emergent property. They're not a property of elementary particles. From my perspective, there's no reason that we need to accept the narrative that works for the structure or other areas of physics when we get to the complex world of life and mind. It might be that new physical principles emerge in those systems.
