The Big Story

The Ghost of the Dogg's Let
Stories of Smoker were being shared long before Esau-Gillingham ever set foot in Labrador. In the late winter of 1931, a British doctor and medical missionary named Harry Patton traveled across Labrador by Dogg's Let. He kept a daily journal to record stories that he found especially interesting. No one is afraid of Smoker, as this apparition has been christened. We have heard of the Phantom Teamster, who drives eight black or black and white dogs,. Hudson's Bay Company's clerks, as well as Labrador men, have vouched for him. With his whip he drove back two runaway puppies that chased his hamootic from one house.
