The Challenge in Politics Is to Find a Way of Organizing Our Society

The sovereign, in hobbs's terms, would be better if he or she or it were a reasonable creature. But sovereignty does not depend on the sovereign being rational. Wolstoncraft did not limit reason in that way. For wolstencraft, reason, rationality were more like a journey. They went an anchoring device. It wasn't a mathematical project. And they coexist all the time with forms of passion, with forms of emotion. The challenge therefore is to find a way of organizing our society so that reason and passion can co exist,. Can support each other, can feed off each other, and can allow us to develop and grow.
