The leader makes excuses for the higher. They try to back it up by justifying the thought process behind why they made that higher. Recency bias: We tend to put too much weight on recent events. Anchoring: Our judgment is heavily skewed by the first information we are given about something. The extreme option will anchor you so you're most likely to choose the middle or at least from a customer's perspective, what you consider to be the best bang for your buck.
