The Circular Drive Initiative Is Trying to Reduce E-Waste
IEEE published standards for sanitizing storage last year that provides the way to make drives unreadable without wholesale destruction. Burning them or melting them are really the only way to make sure that nobody's going to get anything off that drive. If the drives are encrypted to begin with, delete the encryption key and then if they're properly encrypted, they're gobbledygook and nobody can read them.
