The Perverse Incentives in the Forest Service

The forest service is in a position where it's hard for them to look after the forests because the timber industry wants this subsidy and Congress wants to give it to them. The argument I make is that when stuff is publicly owned, the public bureaucrats that manage it don't have any real strong incentive to look after it well. Ant: There are just perverse incentives in the political process which can override the positive incentives for the good people in the forest service who want to look After It Well.
