The Role of Women in the Conservation Movement

The early conservation movement was really a movement of elite white men, most of them hunters. The women who came from the suffrage movement into the conservation movement in the early 1900s were a big one. Their interest really lent a grassroots character to the movement that it didn't have much of before. They brought new species into the movement because it had been a movement of sportsmen.
