The Relationship With My Host Family

I think the connection to China part was on sort of a broad geopolitical level being like, I want to learn about this country. But also just these personal relationships really making me want to come back and do more with my life. My host brother could speak a little bit of English and I sort of slowly was learning Chinese. He would pull the cover over his head and have a flashlight and read Kung Fu novels at night. And then he would tell me the stories he would, you know, because he was so excited. Now he's a professor at a university here.
