Most thanksgivings around the world are religious in nature, or at least originated as such. The idea of celebrating thanksgiving was carried from by british loyalists who fled during the revolution to scotia and usually nova. It doesn't have the same meaning for canadians though, that it has for americans because it's not associated with anything in their history.
