The Importance of Modernization in the War-Spite
The war-spite's machinery was 20 years old and starting to cause problems. The only way to make the ships last for another 10 years was to replace all of it. This brought many advantages beyond just having new bits in the ship. For comparison, the King George V class that would be constructed just a few years later would cost over seven million pounds each.
