In neuroscience, it's accepted that we can't get at the subjective aspect of consciousness. And nor do you know if I'm experienced in the conversation right now. This is why this is called the hard problem of consciousness because it seems impenetrable from the outside to know if something's having a conscious experience. The only thing I can come up with to try to make that problem scientifically tractable and also relate it to how I think about the physics of life is to ask the question: Are there things that can only happen in the universe because there are physical systems that have subjective experience?
