Lord at the Flies - I'd Like to Hear You Talk About It
I think many people reading your book will have, if you'll pardon me, Lord at the Flies in the back of their mind. I mean, it's kind of a naive thought because those kids were socialized in heavily authoritarian school environments. So when they got on their own, they recapitulated it, right? But I guess what I'd like to hear you talk about is that these sort of, you know, the sociologist Irving Goffman, I'm sure you do. He talked about total institutions and a total institution would be the military or an asylum or a school where people have to conform. They're very strong authoritarian sort of power," he said.
