The Politics of the 1970s

The Clean Air Act passed the House of Representatives by 374 to one, and the Senate by 73 to zero. You couldn't conceive of any piece of legislation that would pass in the US right now even if it was like legislation against the arrival of Satan. There are two other concerns in the 1970s that are bigger than this, and which climate deniers talk about to this day. The planet actually cooled slightly, despite rising emissions. This is partly because air pollution blocks sunlight and cools the Earth. When you get these emissions, the carbon warms it, but the dirt cools it. Not so bad idea, right?
