Is Putin's Seismopol a Crimean War?
Putin's seizure of the Crimea in 2014 is all about Russian nationalism and patriotism as it is generated by hardline aggressive regimes like Putin's. Sevastopol is a key part of the Russian mythos and has been since 1855 when Tolstoy published his book but it's worked on by people like Putin to generate greater enthusiasm. This is Russia saying we are different. We view the world differently. We don't share your values, interests or judgments. The cost of losing this war for Russia was fundamental political and cultural change.
