The New Exodus
The disciples say, look, send them away so they may go into the surrounding country and villages and buy something for themselves to eat. What does God do during that time? But he sends manna from heaven. We're meant to think of this as a sort of new exodus and a new feeding with manna. The puny food that we can find through our own efforts will never satisfy them.
