Gouders are a swelling on the neck, right in front of the larynx. They can compress the trachia and make it difficult to breathe or swallow. Some portion of the population with gouders had a related condition, what used to be called cretanism. It's associated with cognitive impairment and also deaf mutism. And it's not reversible.
