What Is a Scapegoat?
Girard: People in the center of society tend to push the blame of problems onto people who are on the margins. He says ancient societies tended to be very violent as human beings are when they come together in civilization. Girard: They tended to offer these people up as scapegoats and sort of the sins, the anger, the violence of that society will be focused on that person.
