Is the Back of the Book Containing Everything?
Mathematicians dus do bigger sums, invent new numbers, whatever. And if you're not enjoying it, if somehow your interest has either switched off of its own accord or been switched off, it's very hard to get it back. So i think as an informed citizen, there is a certain amount of basic math that you need to know. We don't use school math every day in obvious ways, but it kind of informs our background thinking on a lot of things. If you can just look at those figures and not put off by the numbers, you're already half way toward understanding what the article was telling you about - which may be rubbish.
